CD OF SONG
Play the two versions of the "I’m A Person" song. Then replay the version that resonates most with your child and sing along with the singers while looking at the lyrics card. As you continue to sing the song, paying close attention to the lyrics, your child will quickly learn the song, and the powerful messages will be put to practical use.
Have fun singing the song. Remember music penetrates deeply into the soul.
Stand up and start moving to the rhythm of the music. Create a performance that you can share with others. Once you and your child learn the lyrics, you can sing along with the music.
KID’S BOOKMARK
Look at the Kids bookmark. If your children is of reading age, have them read each of the affirmations aloud. If required, read them aloud and have the child repeat after you, saying it with high energy.
Discuss with your child the different affirmations, suh as…"What does it mean to be trustworthy...caring…courageous…kind?
Share from your experiences.
Listen to what your child has to say.
Really BE PRESENT while listening…give them 100%. Do this exercise when you have the time to be totally there for them, without any distractions. Make this a special time for the two of you.
Art Activity: You will need paper, construction paper or poster board along with pencils, crayons, magic markers, or paints.
Have your children draw pictures, visually expressing each affirmation. Then, you can cut them out, photo copy, make into cards...use your wonderful imagination!
PARENTS BOOKMARK
Parents, read the words to your child. Ask how they feel when they hear these words directed at them.
Art Activity: Next, take out drawing papers or poster board, crayons, magic markers, or watercolors, or other paints so they can draw pictures that come to their mind as you say "You are terrific" "You are the best," etc. Ask them. "What are some of the images that come to your mind when I say different words to you?" This activity will make the affirmations feel very real to your child.
"TIPS" FOR PARENTS
Read over these tips each day and discuss them frequently and integrate them into your parenting skills.
RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Read over the "Rights and Responsibilities" card with your child. Say it first and have them repeat each line. Discuss what it means to be a "person." What can we do to be more caring each day? Create an activity you can do together each day to support these rights and responsibilities, such as create an "Acts of Kindness" Journal, which demonstrates caring about family and community.
Create a "Chart for the Month" or "Good Deeds for the Month" chart of some personal responsibilities your child can do around the house…such as empty the dishwasher, wash some dishes, empty the trash, clean my room, etc. Choose some special activities to do with your child to help a neighbor, a family member, etc.
